Texas hammers USC
Things started rough for Texas this year with another loss to Maryland, but the Longhorns have followed that up with wins over Tulsa and USC. Last week’s win was a dominant victory at home 37-14. Texas is 1-2 against the spread while hitting the over in two of three games. The Longhorns haven’t had back-to-back covers over their last eight games.
The Longhorns have been respectable on defense so far, allowing just 23 points and 359 yards per game. On offense, Texas is putting up 31.3 points and 425.7 yards per game. They are also led by their ground attack, which is putting up 181 yards per game. They have four players with over 100 yards rushing, including QB Sam Ehlinger, who has 116 yards and two touchdowns. He has thrown for 723 yards and six touchdowns as well.
TCU looking to bounce back
After a dominant 2-0 start to the season, TCU fell to Ohio State last week at AT&T Stadium for its first loss of the year. The Horned Frogs covered in the 40-28 loss to move to 2-1 against the spread and they have hit the over in two of their three games. They are just 2-4 against the spread in their last six games.
Outside of the loss last week, TCU has been really stingy on defense. The Horned Frogs are giving up just 19.7 points and 317.7 yards per game this year. On offense, TCU is posting 41.7 points and 467.7 yards per game. Their rushing attack is producing 225 yards per game. Quarterback Shawn Robinson has thrown for 644 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 119 yards and three scores to lead the offense. Darius Anderson is leading the ground game with 259 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas
Texas is 9-3-1 against the spread in its last 13 games against a team with a winning record.
TCU
TCU has covered the spread in six of its last seven on fieldturf and in 7 of their last 10 road games.
Prediction:
TCU has dominated this series since it moved to a conference game. The Horned Frogs have won and covered the spread in four straight against the Longhorns. The TCU’s offense and its tempo should be a big problem for Texas, which is still trying to figure things out in Herman’s defense. I don’t see the Longhorns being able to keep pace with TCU. Texas had a nice win last week, but may be more of a indication of how bad USC is than how good Texas may be.
