Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley is considered to be “very doubtful” for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M due to an undisclosed injury. Whaley took a hard hit during the third quarter of the Sept. 22 loss to Auburn, not returning to the game as a result. While it’s been reported that the junior may have suffered a concussion, Arkansas HC Chad Morris did not confirm or deny that during his media availability. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound junior is Arkansas’ leading rusher this season, as he’s rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns on 53 carries. Should Whaley not be able to play Saturday, sophomores Chase Hayden and Rakeem Boyd would be next in line.
Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M sophomore QB Kellen Mond completed 16-of-33 passes for 196 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing for 98 yards and an additional score in Saturday’s 45-23 loss to Alabama. Mond and the Aggies were up to try to make this one a game and pushed Alabama to play their starters in the second half (craziness!), but even with their respectable efforts, they fell well short of actually challenging for a win. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder did find a few lanes as a runner, with his 98 yards on the ground standing as his best tally of the young season. Setting aside Saturday’s predictable outcome, we love what we’ve seen from the sophomore early on this year. Mond has thrown for 1,020 yards with a 7/2 TD/INT ratio in four games this season, with 201 yards rushing accounted for on his statistical ledger in addition. Texas A&M will look to bounce back against the hapless Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 5.
Betting Trends
Arkansas
The Razorbacks are 0-3-1 against the spread in their last four games overall and are winless at the betting window in their last four neutral site games.
Texas A&M
The Aggies are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall and are 21-5-1 ATS in their last 27 games played in the month of September.
Prediction
The Aggies will certainly post a victory today but after already facing the likes of Clemson and Alabama, how fired up will they be for this year’s installment of the Classic? The Hogs are a mess. They’re a mess offensively, on special teams, and along the offensive line. Where they have been competitive, however, is defensively. I don’t think A&M rolls today so I’m holding my breath with Arkansas hoping its defense shows up today and the Hogs stop beating themselves with mistakes offensively.
