Mustangs coming off a bye
SMU had a bye last week, but the Mustangs are coming off a 59-51 win over ECU two weeks ago to bounce back from a 54-48 loss at Memphis on Nov. 2. The Mustangs are now 9-1 on the season, 5-1 in the AAC, 6-4 against the spread and 9-1 with the over.
The Mustangs have one of the top offenses in the nation this season, averaging 45.1 points and 522.2 yards per game. Defensively, SMU is allowing 32.7 points and 425.8 yards per contest. Shane Buechele is having a great year, throwing for 3,195 yards and 28 touchdowns to lead the SMU offense. Xavier Jones is the top rusher with 1,063 yards and 18 touchdowns while James Proche is the leading receiver with 88 catches for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns. Patrick Nelson has led the SMU defense this year with 61 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
Navy ends win streak
The Navy football team had a five-game win streak come to an end last weekend in a 52-20 loss at Notre Dame. The Midshipmen are still in the AAC mix as they are 7-2 overall, 5-1 in conference play, 6-3 against the spread and 6-3 with the over.
Navy brings the top rushing attack in the nation to this week’s game. The Midshipmen average 349.7 yards per game on the ground while averaging 37.9 points and 446.3 total yards per contest. Defensively, Navy is giving up 21.9 points and 321.9 yards per contest. Malcolm Perry is leading the team with 1,159 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, while also passing for 758 yards and five scores. Nelson Smith has rushed for 512 yards and seven scores while Jamale Carothers had 396 yards and eight touchdowns. The Navy defense is being led by Jacob Springer, who has 51 tackles and seven sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
SMU
The Mustangs have hit the over in seven straight games on fieldturf and in seven of their last eight games following a win.
Navy
The Midshipmen have hit the over in five of their last six games on fieldturf and in 20 of their last 27 games in November.
Prediction:
The total is being set high, but these two have hit the over in four straight meetings. SMU has struggled to stop the triple-option offense of Navy, allowing at least 30 points in the last four meetings, including 75 in 2016. Navy proved it can be scored on last week when Notre Dame put up 52 on them. The SMU offense is more explosive than what Notre Dame has, so I think this is going to be a high-scoring shootout that could approach 80 points or more.
College Football Week 13 Prediction: SMU/Navy Over 67
