According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Boyd is 66/1 to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy, which gives him the longest odds of any player listed to win the award this season. That said, Jacoby Brissett, Jalen Hurd, Laquon Treadwell, Marquise Williams and Scooby Wright are all 66/1, respectively, to win as well.
Boyd has had a rocky offseason, as he was charged and arrested for DUI on June 13. The 20-year-old reportedly told police that he only consumed two shots before getting behind the wheel. Boyd’s head coach, Pat Narduzzi, recently addressed the situation at a booster event.
“You always look at yourself,” Narduzzi told the crowd. “What can we do better as a staff and a head football coach? That’s everything we do. We talk all the time about making right choices. I’m a father of four. I feel for him. I feel for his family.”
Boyd caught 78 passes for 1,261 yards with eight touchdowns last year for the Panthers. According to ESPN.com, he was responsible for 52.2 percent of Pitt’s receiving yards last season and no other player in the country accounted for more than 44 percent of his team’s receiving yards. It’s not yet known how the Pitt program will discipline Boyd for his arrest.
