Mississippi State playing for a bowl
Mississippi State has a short week, as they hosted Abilene Christian last weekend and earned a 45-7 victory. The Bulldogs are looking to win three of their last four games to become bowl eligible. Mississippi State is 5-6 on the year, 2-5 in the SEC, 4-7 against the spread and 6-5 with the over.
The Bulldogs have been middle of the road on both sides of the ball. Mississippi State is putting up 28.2 points and 410.6 yards per game on offense, while the defense is giving up 28.8 points and 390.6 yards per contest. The team has been working with two quarterbacks as of late in Garrett Shrader and Tommy Stevens. The two have combined for just under 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. Shrader also has rushed for 568 yards while Stevens has 310 yards on the ground. Kylin Hill is the leader of the offense with 1,215 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Osirus Mitchell is the team’s leading receiver with 27 catches for 383 yards and five scores.
Ole Miss looking to play spoiler
Ole Miss has dropped four of its last five games following a 58-37 loss at home to LSU back on Nov. 16. The Rebels are now 4-7 on the season, 2-5 in the SEC, 7-4 against the spread and 6-5 with the under.
The Rebels are not too bad offensively thanks to a great rushing attack. They are averaging 27.2 points and 450.9 yards per game while putting up 261.5 yards per game on the ground. Defensively, Ole Miss is giving up 27 points and 426.4 yards per game. John Rhys Plumlee is leading the offense with 989 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while throwing for 789 yards and four scores. Matt Corral is also used in the passing game. He has thrown for 1,238 yards and five scores. Jerrio Ealy has rushed for 640 yards and five scores this year to add to the offense while Elijah Moore has 64 receptions for 815 yards and five touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are 15-6 against the spread in their last 21 home games, but just 1-5 ATS in their last six SEC games.
Ole Miss
The Rebels are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games on grass.
Prediction:
The road team has won four straight in this series, covering the spread in all four victories. The Rebels have actually been competitive recently against tough opponents. They covered at Missouri and Auburn, as well as at home against LSU. The Bulldogs haven’t been quite as competitive. Despite a 30-point win over Arkansas, they have suffered double-digit losses to five of their last seven opponents. I just think that lack of competitiveness from Mississippi State will be a problem today in a game that should be competitive. Ole Miss has at least been batting in the trenches. I think the Rebels will be able to find a way past the Bulldogs tonight for that reason.
College Football Week14 Prediction: Ole Miss +1.5
