Sooners putting up big numbers
Oklahoma is off to a 2-0 start thanks to some impressive offensive numbers. The Sooners have defeated Houston and South Dakota. They are 1-1 against the spread this year and 1-0-1 with the over.
The Sooners are averaging 59.5 points and 709.5 yards per game thus far on offense while giving up just 22.5 points and 378 yards per game on defense. Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts has led the offense with 591 passing yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 223 yards and three scores. Oklahoma has three backs with over 115 yards rushing and CeeDee Lamb is the leading receiver with eight catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
Bruins a mess
UCLA is off to a rough start to the 2019 season. The Bruins suffered a 24-14 loss at Cincinnati to open the year and then took a 23-14 loss at home to San Diego State last weekend. The Bruins are 0-2 against the spread and 2-0 with the under.
Despite being coached by Chip Kelly, the UCLA offense looks like a mess. The Bruins are putting up just 14 points and 239.5 yards per game. The defense is giving up 23.5 points and 395 yards per contest. Dorian Thompson-Robinson has thrown for 355 yards and three touchdowns, but also has two interceptions. Demetric Felton is the team’s leading rusher with 99 yards on 33 carries. He is also the leading receiver with 127 yards on nine catches.
College Football Betting Trends
Oklahoma
The Sooners have hit the over in five straight against Pac-12 opponents and in four of their last five road games.
UCLA
The Bruins are 12-5 with the over in their last 17 against Big 12 opponents and 5-2 with the over in their last seven home games.
Prediction:
I can understand why the total is so high, but UCLA has shown no ability to put up points. Oklahoma isn’t a terrible defense, it’s just the Sooners score so much that the defensive numbers get a bit inflated. I don’t think that will be an issue this weekend, as the Bruins just don’t have the pieces to compete with Oklahoma. The Sooners are likely to score a lot, but not keep their same current pace. It is their first road game, so look for them to stay more around the low 40’s.
