Ohio State Buckeyes Game Notes
Ohio State freshman quarterback CJ Stroud completed 24-of-33 passes for 406 yards and five touchdowns in a 66-17 destruction of Maryland on Saturday. Stroud (6’3/215) was magnificent for a second straight game, as the first-year starter continues to get more comfortable running the Buckeyes’ offense. He showed positive development outside of structure, making multiple precise throws on the move while slicing up an overmatched Maryland secondary. Stroud led Ohio State to a robust 598 yards of total offense in an efficient, turnover-free effort where he averaged a superb 11.4 yards per pass attempt. OSU is on bye this week before they resume their Big Ten schedule against Indiana on October 24.
Indiana Hoosiers Game Notes
Indiana redshirt sophomore QB Jack Tuttle completed 28-of-52 passes for 188 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday’s 20-15 loss to Michigan State. The Hoosiers have a solid defense, and they have pieces at running back, wide receiver and tight end. But until Michael Penix comes back from injury, they don’t have a quarterback. A former four-star recruit that has underwhelmed whenever he’s seen the field, Tuttle came into this game averaging 5.6 YPA on 57.4% completions over 101 career passes with a 3/2 TD/INT rate. He managed to lower the bar today, averaging 3.6 YPA with the two picks and no scores. Next week, Ohio State will become the fifth top-10 opponent Indiana has faced this season. If Penix is inactive, that game is going to get out of hand quickly.
Ohio State vs. Indiana Betting Prediction
The Buckeyes are just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games against the Hoosiers, but they’re also 7-0 against the number in their last seven games in October and have covered in six of their last eight games in Bloomington. The Hoosiers, meanwhile, are winless against the spread in their last four games, are 0-4 against the number in their last four games as an underdog and are 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games as a home dog.
