Irish get scare from Virginia Tech
Notre Dame nearly lost back-to-back games last weekend when the Irish picked up a 21-20 win at home over Virginia Tech by scoring in the closing moments. Notre Dame is now 6-2 on the season, 4-4 against the spread and 5-3 with the under.
ND has been led this season by its defense. The Irish are giving up just 20.8 points and 345.6 yards per game this year. Offensively, Notre Dame is putting up 33.8 points and 418.9 yards per contest. Ian Book has thrown for 1,828 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 251 yards and four scores to lead the offensive unit. Tony Jones Jr. is the rushing leader with 571 yards and four touchdowns, while Chase Claypool is the leading receiver with 37 catches for 554 yards and four scores.
Blue Devils edged by rival
Duke is coming off a 20-17 loss on the road to North Carolina two weeks ago. The Blue Devils have lost their last two and three of their last four to drop to 4-4 on the year. Duke is 4-4 against the spread and 6-2 with the over this season.
Duke hasn’t been too impressive on offense this year, as the Blue Devils are averaging just 29.5 points and 362.9 yards per game. Defensively, Duke is allowing 25.9 points and 351.8 yards per game. Quentin Harris is leading the team this year with 1,500 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, but he also has seven interceptions. Harris has rushed for 408 yards and six touchdowns, while Deon Jackson has 487 yards and five scores on the ground. Jalon Calhoun is the leading receiver, but has just 294 yards and 37 receptions, which includes three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame
Notre Dame has hit the under in four of their last five road games and in six of their last eight November games.
Duke
The Blue Devils have hit the over in six straight home games and in five of their last six games on grass.
Prediction:
These two last met in 2016, going over the 60.5-point total in a 38-35 victory for the Blue Devils. The Irish seem to have hit a wall on offense, scoring just 35 points in their last two games. Their offense hasn’t been able to win up front in recent games and I think that could be an issue on the road against Duke. The Blue Devils aren’t flashy, but they will compete at the line of scrimmage. The Duke offense is likely to struggle with the ND defense in the same regard, as the Blue Devils just don’t have the gamebreakers to really make a lot of plays.
