North Texas Mean Green Game Notes
North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed 23 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns as the Mean Green downed the Roadrunners 45-23 on Saturday. In what was the biggest win for North Texas on the season, Torrey (5’7/195) saved one of his best games for last. He found the end zone on three separate occasions in this one, rushing for scores from two, four and 19-yards out. Surprisingly, North Texas never trailed in this game against the once undefeated Roadrunners, as a stout defense and elite ground game kept the Mean Green out front throughout. Now officially bowl eligible, the Mean Green should have one more game on the season.
Miami OH Redhawks Game Notes
Miami (OH) sophomore QB Brett Gabbert completed 26-of-41 passes for 402 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in Saturday’s 48-47 overtime loss to Kent State. Gabbert (6’0/205) had some good and bad moments in this game. He started this game off well, and the Redhawks had an early 24-9 lead, but Kent State pushed hard and made a comeback. The Golden Flashes clamped down, and Gabbert had just one completion in three drives from the end of the second quarter into the third. Gabbert continued to have good and bad moments. He was finally able to get back on point and hit Jack Coldiron for the 24-yard touchdown to cut the lead down 24-23. Then he would cut two more Miami drives short with some costly picks that resulted in two Kent State field goals. Credit the defense for holding their own because it allowed Gabbert to put the RedHawks back into this game with a Kenny Tracy 49 yards score and then call his own number for the seven-yard run. A Miami field goal as time expired sent this game into overtime. Kent State started the first overtime with a touchdown and an extra point. The RedHawks would respond with a touchdown of their own but went for it on the two-point conversion but failed. This was a big game for both teams as it was for a chance to play in the MAC championship. Now Miami (OH) will have to wait for where they will play in the bowl season.
