New Mexico puts up 62
New Mexico started its season with a 62-30 victory over Incarnate Word this past weekend. The Lobos failed to cover the spread as a 36-point favorite, but they easily cleared the 63.5-point total. New Mexico has hit the over in three of their last four contests.
In the victory, New Mexico had a good blend of offense. The Lobos finished with 680 total yards behind 361 passing yards and 319 rushing yards. Quarterback Tevaka Tuioti threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns on 13 of 21 passing. He also added 54 rushing yards and a score on 11 carries. Zahneer Shuler was the leading rusher with 90 yards on five carries. Defensively, New Mexico gave up 566 total yards to Incarnate Word. The Cardinals had 322 passing yards and 244 rushing yards.
Wisconsin dominates again
Wisconsin started its season with a 34-3 win at home over Western Kentucky on Friday. The Badgers didn’t cover the 36.5-point spread and they went under the 52-point total in the win. Wisconsin has hit the under in four of its last five games coming into this week’s game.
The opener was typical Wisconsin football, as the Badgers were able to establish themselves with the run and then break some big plays in the air, all while the defense held firm against the Hilltoppers. Wisconsin finished with 491 total yards as Jonathan Taylor rushed for 145 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook threw for 257 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Badgers created a pair of turnovers while holding WKU to 181 passing yards.
College Football Betting Trends
New Mexico
New Mexico has hit the under in six of its last seven road games and 12-3-1 with the under in their last 16 games after a win of more than 20 points.
Wisconsin
The Badgers have hit the under in four straight games on fieldturf and in seven of their last 10 against Mountain West Conference opponents.
Prediction:
New Mexico may have put up a lot of points in Week 1, but I don’t see how the Lobos will move the ball against this Wisconsin defense. I think this game plays out a lot like the Badgers against Western Kentucky. Wisconsin will dominate and not allow the Lobos to get going. Wisconsin won’t score enough to hit the over and New Mexico won’t score enough points in garbage time to get it done either.
College Football Prediction: New Mexico/Wisconsin Under 58
