Michigan cracks Top 4

Michigan has won eight straight games, including a 42-7 win over Penn State last week, to move into the top 4 of the College Football Playoff rankings. The Wolverines are 8-1 overall, 6-0 in the Big Ten, 6-3 against the spread and 5-4 with the over. They have hit the over in three of their last four games.

The Wolverines are dominant on defense this year, giving up just 13.6 points and 316.2 yards per game. Their pass defense is allowing only 122 yards per contest. When it comes to offense, Michigan is posting 36.7 points and 418.4 yards per contest. On the ground, Michigan averages over 215 yards per game. Karan Higdon is leading the pack with 963 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while quarterback Shea Patterson has been a good game manager, throwing for 1,667 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Rutgers struggling on offense

Rutgers suffered its eighth straight loss this past week, losing at Wisconsin 31-17. The Knights have been held to 17 points or less in all eight losses. They are now 1-8 overall, 0-6 in the Big Ten, 4-5 against the spread and 6-3 with the under. Rutgers has hit the under in three straight games.

For the season, the Knights are averaging just 15.3 points and 276.9 yards per game on offense. It has been ugly for quarterback Artur Sitkowski, as he has thrown for 1,100 yards and four touchdowns with 15 interceptions. He is completing less than 50 percent of his passes. Raheem Blackshear is the leading rusher with 437 yards and two touchdowns. He is also the leading receiver with 35 catches for 316 yards and two scores. Defensively, Rutgers is giving up 33.4 points and 414.8 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing 234.3 yards per contest.

College Football Betting Trends

Michigan

Michigan has hit the under in five of its last six road games, but has hit the over in 10 of its last 14 in November.

Rutgers

Rutgers has hit the under in four of its last five following a loss and in five of its last six Big Ten games.

Prediction:

It’s hard to see Rutgers scoring points in this game. The Knights have one of the worst offenses in the country and are facing one of the best defenses in the nation. Michigan isn’t a team that is going to really overpower on offense with frequent scores. Their game is more ball control. It will be up to the Wolverines to do nearly all the scoring and I am just not sure I see them running it up and putting up 45 points or more. Michigan’s offense hasn’t been terribly impressive on the road, failing to score more than 21 points. While Michigan should eclipse that on Saturday, I don’t think they will do enough to hit the over.

College Football Prediction: Michigan/Rutgers Under 48.5
