Michigan State Spartans Game Notes
Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans continue to enjoy a big week. Following their 37-33 win over Michigan, the Spartans are now ranked third in the first college football playoff rankings. Tucker and the Spartans showed up in a big way last weekend against Michigan, largely on the back of Heisman candidate running back Kenneth Walker’s five touchdown performance. Now at 8-0 on the season, the Spartans will look to continue their ascent toward a playoff berth. They face Purdue, Maryland, Ohio State and Penn State to close out the season as their bid for a Big Ten championship and a college football playoff appearance is on the horizon.
Purdue Boilermakers Game Notes
Purdue redshirt senior QB Aiden O’Connell completed 34-of-45 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 28-23 win over Nebraska. O’Connell (6’3″/200) looked good today, as he was poised and comfortable in the pocket. He wasn’t trying to make the big plays, just mainly staying conservative and finding the open receivers. Nebraska was tough upfront, not allowing much time to extend plays, but O’Connell adjusted to it. Purdue wasn’t able to do much offensively, but neither was Nebraska, allowing them to remain in this game. O’Connell was finally able to break as Purdue took their first lead in the fourth quarter when he found a wide-open Milton Wright in the back of the end zone to take a 21-17 lead. O’Connell found his groove and led the Boilermakers down the field and capped it off with a Jackson Anthrop for a nine yards touchdown and get Purdue the road win. Their matchup next week is tough as they host Michigan State who is coming off a big win over Michigan.
