Michigan State Spartans Game Notes
Jalen Berger totaled nine rushes for 17 yards and gathered in one of two targets for six yards during Saturday’s 29-7 loss against Michigan. Berger’s sound play over his first two games with the Spartans seems to have completely evaporated, as he’s now averaged just 2.8 yards per carry since Week 2. The sophomore back has still continued to operate in the team’s top rushing duo, though it’s unlikely that any Michigan State running back will find any success in the team’s next contest against Illinois this Saturday.
Illinois Fighting Illini Game Notes
Tommy DeVito was 20-for-22 passing for 179 yards during Saturday’s 26-9 win against Nebraska. DeVito completed a career-best 90.9 percent of his passes as he picked apart Nebraska’s defense on short and intermediate passes. The senior signal-caller’s longest completion came on a 46-yard catch-and-run touchdown by wide receiver Isaiah Williams on Illinois’ opening drive, bringing his yards-per-attempt average up to his second-highest mark of the season at 8.1. DeVito efficiently managed the Fighting Illini’s offense this season, and he should have no issues continuing to do this against Michigan State’s woeful pass defense next week.
