Houston Cougars Game Notes
Houston redshirt junior QB Clayton Tune completed 21-of-34 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Houston’s 37-8 win over Temple. Houston and Tune (6’3″/215) started slow, but once they got going the really started moving well. Both of Tune’s TDs were in the 4th quarter, a deep one to Jaylen Erwin on a busted coverage, and then a short, well-placed dart to Seth Green. It wasn’t as good as Tune’s shoot out against SMU, but Tune still moved well and completed a number of nice throws. He wasn’t required to do much in this one with the running game working like it was, but we’ve seen him turn it on when necessary. Tune’s playmaking will be a bigger deal next Friday against Houston.
Memphis Tigers Game Notes
Memphis freshman QB Seth Henigan completed 15-of-26 passes for 233 yards, three touchdowns and one interception as the Tigers fell to East Carolina 30-29 on Saturday. Henigan (6’3/200) gave Memphis its first points on the day when he connected with wide receiver asa Martin on a 31-yard touchdown to put the Tigers up 7-0 early. Henigan connected with wide receiver Eddie Lewis in the second quarter on a 74-yard touchdown, and found wide receiver Sean Dykes on a two-yard touchdown to put Memphis back up 20-16 in the third quarter. Henigan and the Tigers would go for the win in overtime on a two-point conversion, but failed to covert on the attempt, as they fell 30-29. Memphis will travel to Houston for a matchup with the Cougars next Friday night.
