Vandy slow out the gate
Vanderbilt is coming off an off week after dropping a 42-24 loss at Purdue two weeks ago. The Commodores also suffered a 30-6 loss at home against Georgia to open the year. Vandy is 0-2 on the season, 0-1 in the SEC, 0-2 against the spread and 1-1 with the over/under total.
The Commodores are struggling on both sides of the ball. They are giving up 36 points and 509.5 yards per game defensively, while averaging just 15 points and 358 yards per game on offense. Riley Neal has thrown for 463 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense while Ke’Shawn Vaughn is the leading rusher with 130 yards and a touchdown. Chris Pierce is the leading receiver with four catches for 149 yards and a score.
LSU with potent offense
The LSU Tigers are off to a 3-0 start thanks to a 65-14 win over Northwestern State last weekend. The Tigers are 2-1 against the spread while hitting the over in all three games this season.
LSU has been incredible on offense this season, which is a far cry from what they have been. The Tigers are averaging 55 points and 551.7 yards per game. Joe Burrow is leading the way with 1,122 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. His leading target has been Justin Jefferson, who has 19 catches for 374 yards and four touchdowns. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the leading rusher with 182 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, the Tigers are holding opponents to 18.3 points and 302 yards per contest.
College Football Betting Trends
Vanderbilt
The Commodores have hit the under in four straight conference games and in five of their last six following a bye.
LSU
LSU is 4-0 with the over in its last four games in September and 5-0 with the over after scoring more than 40 points in its previous game.
Prediction:
LSU’s offense looks amazing, but that doesn’t mean its defense is trash. The Tigers still know how to make stops and stopping this Vanderbilt squad shouldn’t be a tough task. The Tigers will put up a healthy amount of points again this week, but not enough to carry this big total on their own. I see LSU really dominating on both sides of the ball and not allowing Vandy to contribute much to the total.
