Kent State Golden Flashes Game Notes
Kent State redshirt senior QB Dustin Crum completed 20-of-30 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-47 victory over Northern Illinois on Wednesday. Crum (6’3/207) was magnificent against the hapless NIU defense, leading the team to 682 total yards while playing turnover free ball as the KSU “Flash Fast” offense exerted their will all game long. Though he cleared the 300 passing yards mark, Crum also was deadly on the ground rolling up 72 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries. His best play came on a well schemed run-pass-option where he held the ball for as long as possible before pulling it out of Marquez Cooper’s belly and firing a 36-yard touchdown pass to Nykheim Johnson who was streaking down the field on a crisp post route. Crum will look to feast on another MAC defense next Wednesday at Central Michigan.
Central Michigan Chippewas Game Notes
Central Michigan redshirt freshman RB Lew Nichols III rushed 26 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-30 victory over Western Michigan this Wednesday. Amazingly, Nichols (5’10/220) only received five carries in the first half as CMU leaned on the passing and return game to start. However that all changed after they came out of the locker room, with the redshirt freshman bringing out his lunch pail for 21 totes while punching in two touchdowns. His first came on a delayed handoff up the middle where he ricocheted off a pair of tacklers to burrow his way into the end zone for the eight-yard touchdown. His second was on a four-and-one play that he rook off the right guard’s hip untouched for a five-yard score. Nichols has run for over 130 yards in four straight games and will look to make it five next Wednesday against Kent State.
