Kansas vs. West Virginia Prediction
While they’ll bounce back from their first loss of the season, will West Virginia cover tonight as a massive favorite vs. Kansas?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Mountanieers are now 34-point home favorites versus the Jayhawks after opening as a 34.5-point favorite. As for the total, the number hit the board at 55 and is now down to 54 for tonight’s 7:00PM ET kickoff.
The Mountaineers hav ewon four of five all-time series meetings between these two teams, including three of four since joining the Big 12 in 2012. Last year in Lawrence, West Virginia shut Kansas out 49-0 and in three all-time meetings in Morgantown, the Mountaineers are 3-0, outscoring Kansas 113-24.
According to ESPN.com, Kansas has 39-straight road losses overall, with its last win coming all the way back in 2009 at UTEP. The Jayhawks have also lost 27 consecutive conference games versus ranked opponents (last win was November 29, 2008 versus Missouri) and have dropped 25 straight games versus ranked opponents (last win September 11, 2010 versus No. 15 Georgia Tech).
OUR PREDICTION: West Virginia should be hot after dropping its first game of the season last week to Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers will win easily today but will they cover? I’d probably pass on this one but I lean WVU. The Jayhawks are just 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 conference games and are 7-24-1 against the number in their last 32 road games. If I’m betting on this one, I’m taking the better team and hoping to avoid a backdoor cover in the end.
