Texas can’t get by the Sooners
Texas is coming off its second loss of the season last week in the Red River Showdown against Oklahoma. The Longhorns suffered a 34-27 loss and both losses they have are to top 5 teams. Texas is 4-2 on the year, 2-1 in the Big 12, 4-2 against the spread and 4-2 with the over.
The Longhorns have been able to move the ball well this year, but are struggling to make stops on defense. Texas is giving up 27.8 points and 453.3 yards per game defensively, while the offense is putting up 39.3 points and 456 yards per game. Sam Ehlinger is leading the offense with 1,658 passing yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 227 yards and five touchdowns. Devin Duvernay is Texas’ leading receiver with 53 catches for 517 yards and four touchdowns while Roschon Johnson has 363 rushing yards.
Kansas on a skid
After some nice wins early in the year, Kansas has found itself on a three-game losing streak following a 45-20 loss at home to Oklahoma two weeks ago. The Jayhawks are now 2-4 on the season, 0-3 in the Big 12, 2-4 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under total.
Kansas hasn’t been able to find its stride on offense or defense under new coach Les Miles. The offense is averaging just 22.8 points and 354.5 yards per game. Defensively, Kansas is giving up 29.7 points and 444.5 yards per contest. Carter Stanley is leading the offense with 1,175 yards and 12 touchdowns passing, while Pooka Williams Jr. has rushed for 445 yards and a score. Andrew Parchment is the team’s leading receiver with 32 catches for 422 yards and four touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas
The Longhorns are 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games in October and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four after a loss.
Kansas
The Jayhawks are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven following a loss, but just 17-37-1 ATS in their last 55 road games.
Prediction:
Kansas has actually managed to cover against Texas the last three years, but I think things go differently this time around. The Jayhawks have been easily outmatched the last two games against Oklahoma and TCU and the Texas offense has been clicking all year. The Longhorns will be able to score with ease at home and I think the defense will be motivated by losing to Oklahoma last week due to some poor tackling.
College Football Week 8 Prediction: Texas -21
