WVU competes with Texas
West Virginia gave Texas a battle last weekend, but still struggled late and took a 42-31 loss at home to the Longhorns. WVU is now 3-2 on the season, 1-1 in the Big 12, 2-2-1 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Mountaineers haven’t had the offense we have grown accustomed to over the years, averaging just 26.2 points and 353.4 yards per game. Defensively, WVU is giving up 28.8 points and 386.2 yards per contest. Austin Kendall is the leader on offense. He has thrown for 1,238 yards and nine touchdowns, but also has seven interceptions. Sam James is his leading receiver with 32 catches for 329 yards and two scores. However, James is questionable to play today due to a head injury. Kennedy McKoy is the leading rusher with just 181 yards and three touchdowns.
Iowa State dominates TCU
Iowa State was edged at Baylor two weeks ago, but bounced back last weekend with a 49-24 win at home over TCU. The Cyclones are 3-2 on the year, 1-1 in the Big 12, 3-2 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Cyclones are strong on offense this year, putting up 37.6 points and 487.2 yards per game. The defense isn’t too bad either, allowing just 22.2 points and 348 yards per contest. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been leading the offense this year. He has thrown for 1,578 yards and 10 touchdowns while also leading the team in rushing with 203 yards and five touchdowns. Deshaunte Jones is the leading rusher for the team with 37 catches for 444 yards and a score. The Iowa State defense is led by O’Rien Vance, who has 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
West Virginia
The Mountaineers have hit the over in seven straight conference games and in nine of their last 12 games following a loss.
Iowa State
The Cyclones are 14-1-1 with the under in their last 16 games following a win and 13-3 with the under in their last 16 road games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in four of their last five meetings, two of which were in Morgantown. Iowa State looked great last week, but the Cyclones struggled offensively in its lone road game of the year, a 23-21 loss at Baylor. West Virginia has been better on offense at home, but Iowa State has a legit defense that is going to slow down the WVU offense one way or another. I just don’t see either team having consistent success on offense today. I look for a defensive battle that will go under the total.
College Football Week 7 Prediction: Iowa State/West Virginia Under 53.5
