Michigan beats up on Rutgers
After getting beat up at Wisconsin two weeks ago, Michigan bounced back last week at home with a 52-0 win over Rutgers. The Wolverines are now 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in the Big Ten, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the over.
Michigan has been pretty good on defense this year as well, allowing just 19.3 points and 295.8 yards per game. The offense is putting up 32.5 points and 392 yards per game thus far. Shea Patterson has thrown for 905 yards and six touchdowns to lead the offense. Ronnie Bell has been his top target with 17 catches for 263 yards. Zach Charbonnet is the team’s leading rusher with 218 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Glasgow is leading the defense with 27 tackles and a couple of sacks.
Iowa looking strong
The Iowa Hawkeyes are off to a 4-0 start to the season thanks to a 48-3 win over Middle Tennessee at home last week. The Hawkeyes are 1-0 in the Big Ten, 2-2 against the spread and 2-1-1 with the under.
Iowa has been a dominant defensive team this year, allowing just 8.5 points and 251 yards per game. Offensively, Iowa is putting up 33.5 points and 465 yards per contest. Nate Stanley has thrown for 965 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception this season. Mekhi Sargent is leading the ground attack with 299 yards. Iowa has three rushers over 200 yards this season. Ihmir Smith-Marsette is the team’s leading receiver with 15 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Michigan
The Wolverines are 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 following a cover.
Iowa
Iowa is 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games on fieldturf, but just 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record.
Prediction:
Iowa has been a problem for Michigan over the years. The Hawkeyes have won five of their last six against Michigan and have covered in three of the last five encounters. Michigan has struggled to win big games in the Jim Harbaugh era, especially against physical defensive teams that can match their strength. The Wolverines are likely to struggle with the Iowa defense today and I don’t think Shea Patterson can beat the Hawkeyes with his arm. Iowa isn’t an overwhelming offense, but their offensive front will challenge Michigan and grind out some scoring drives. I think Iowa punches Michigan in the mouth early, and we have seen the Wolverines don’t respond well to that.
College Football Week 6 Prediction: Iowa +3.5
