Panthers end three-game losing skid
Georgia State (2-3, 1-0) ended its three-game losing streak and won its conference opener in the process last week at home with a 46-14 romp over UL-Monroe. The Panthers out-gained the opposition by a count of 487-262. Quarterback Dan Ellington was an efficient 15-of-18 for 179 yards and a touchdown in the triumph. He also rushed 16 times for 64 yards and a score. Seth Paige led the rushing attack with nine carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Tra Barnett contributed with 62 rushing yards and a TD on 14 carries. Sam Pinckney made two receptions for 74 yards. Roger Carter caught a 4-yard TD on his lone reception of the game. Quavian White paced the defense with six tackles, while Dontae Wilson notched a sack.
Trojans win fourth straight
Troy improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Sun Belt last weekend with a 45-21 home victory over Coastal Carolina. The Trojans opened up a 21-0 lead through one quarter and never relented. Kaleb Barker went 12-of-15 through the air for 143 yards and a touchdown. Jabir Daughtry-Frye had five carries for 140 yards and a touchdown to help pace the offense. B.J. Smith carried 10 times for 103 yards and two scores, while making two receptions for 36 yards and another score. Deondre Douglas added four catches for 62 yards and a score. Tron Folsom notched nine tackles and half a sack to lead the defense. Jarvis Hayes and Carlton Martial each recorded eight tackles and two sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Georgia State
The Panthers are 19-8 in road games played on turf since 1992. Georgia State is 8-1 ATS in October games the last three seasons.
Troy
The Trojans are 1-1 versus the Panthers in the last two meetings. Troy is 2-0 straight up against Georgia State the last two meetings.
Prediction:
Troy is the more talented team here, playing at home and on a national stage. After opening the season with a 56-20 loss to Boise State, the Trojans have turned on the jets and won four straight including an impressive 24-19 victory at Nebraska. It’s a bit tempting to take Georgia State with the spread being over the two-touchdown threshold, but Troy has the ability to blow anyone in the Sun Belt out and this has the makings of another one-sided affair.
