Penn St. vs. Indiana Prediction
Will No. 10 Penn State continue its current hot streak when it hits the road to face Indiana today at Noon ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Penn State is favored on the road in tonight’s game, as the Nittany Lions are getting odds of -7 points against the Hoosiers. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 59.5 points. Penn State has won nine of its last 10 meetings with Indiana, but the Hoosiers are 5-2-3 against the spread in those meetings.
Penn State is on a five-game winning streak right now. The Nittany Lions won at home over Iowa last week, 41-14, to improve to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Big Ten. Penn State is also 5-3-1 against the spread this season, going 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games. The Nittany Lions are continuing to improve on defense, now giving up just 25.6 points and 364.1 yards per game. They are holding opponents to just 197.8 passing yards per game. Offensively, PSU is putting up 34.4 points and 415 yards per game. The Lions are led by their ground attack, which averages 183.4 yards per game. Saquon Barkley is leading the team with 1,055 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while QB Trace McSorley has added 291 rushing yards and five scores. He also has thrown for 2,058 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Indiana is coming off a 33-27 win at Rutgers last week to move to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are just 4-5 against the spread on the year, having failed to cover in three of their last four games. Indiana is led by its strong offense, which is averaging 27.1 points and 468.8 yards per game. They have a tremendous pass attack that puts up just under 300 yards per game. Richard Lagow has thrown for 2,574 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, but he also has 13 interceptions. He has balanced his targets out to three top receivers in Nick Westbrook, Ricky Jones and Mitchell Page, who have a combined 124 receptions. Indiana also has a reliable back in Devine Redding, who has 793 rushing yards this season.
Penn State really has found its stride in this five game win streak. The Nittany Lions have three wins by double digits during that time, including a 62-24 win at Purdue. Indiana has been facing lesser competition in recent weeks and winning, but playing very close games. The Penn State defense should be able to handle what IU draws up on offense and I expect the Nittany Lions to continue to run the ball effectively.
