Bet on College Football Futures Odds
Clemson and Alabama have won the past four College Football Playoff championships. Alabama won the title in the 2015 and 2017 seasons while Clemson won the championship in the 2016 and 2018 seasons. These two teams met in the final in three of the last four years.
Right now, both teams come into the season as 5/2 co-favorites to win the national championship. Clemson had a dominant win over Bama in last year’s championship, 44-16, and returns 12 starters from that squad, including dynamic quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who looks like he could be the top player in the nation. Clemson also has nearly all of its offensive line returning while bringing in the top recruiting class in the ACC.
For Alabama, the Tide should be plenty motivated to win it all after getting humbled by the Tigers in last year’s final. Alabama returns 13 starters from their 2018 team, led by Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback. Tua was a Heisman frontrunner for most of 2018 before Kyler Murray grabbed it with a late surge. Alabama also brings in the top recruiting class in the SEC to this year’s team.
When you consider the field, certainly there are a lot of quality teams in the mix. Georgia was knocking on the door last year while Ohio State is always dangerous, but undergoing a coaching change. Oklahoma should still be solid and the Sooners have a motivated QB in Jalen Hurts. However, Clemson looks like it is head-and-shoulders above those teams in my opinion. The defense is solid and the Tigers have a great QB. Alabama is always loaded and a threat to go unbeaten. I just don’t see any team being able to compete with these two in the end.
