Will LSU make the playoffs in 2014?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – LSU will once again have its hands full in the SEC but will the Tigers crack the four-team playoff field this season?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, LSU currently has 5/2 odds to make the four-team playoff field in college football this season and 1/4 to miss the postseason. The Tigers are also 18/1 to win the 2014-15 College Football FBS Championship, while the Florida State Seminoles remain the favorites at 11/2 odds.
Perhaps the biggest decision that Les Miles will need to make this offseason is who will start under center will LSU opens its season. Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron will choose between sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris to replace Zach Mettenberger, who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans back in May.
Harris was the better of the two quarterbacks in the spring game while Jennings threw two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns. Harris has also been working in San Diego this offseason with quarterback guru George Whitfield, who has helped NFL present/future starters Andrew Luck, Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel.
If the Tigers can get consistent play out of their quarterback position than they will challenge for playoff spot in 2014. Some have noted that this is the best recruiting class that Miles has signed in his 10-year career in Baton Rouge. The group is led by New Orleans running back Leonard Fournette, who was the consensus No. 1 recruit in America.
Miles knows how to rebuild a program as quickly as anyone and LSU will compete again in a tough conference. But whether or not their quarterback play will hold them out of one of the four playoff spots is the question. We’ll just have to wait and see.
