According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Jones is the favorite to start for the Buckeyes in Game 1 of the 2015 regular season. While he’s a 7/5 favorite, Braxton Miller is 9/4 and J.T. Barrett is 8/5, so all of the odds are close.
Jones led the Buckeyes to a win in the Big Ten Championship Game over Wisconsin, to a semi-finals playoff win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, and to a national title victory over Oregon in his only three games this season. One would think that Meyer would reward Jones for his achievements but it may not be that easy of a decision for Meyer.
Miller was the starter heading into 2014 but he re-injured his shoulder and was a medical redshirt this past season. There are reports that he may transfer to another school, meaning Jones will compete with Barrett for the starting job in 2015. Barrett, meanwhile, completed 203-of-314 passes for 2,834 yards with 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in place of Miller this past season.
Meyer faces an interesting decision next fall.
