According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Rebels are 40/1 to win the 2015 FBS college football Championship and 14/1 to win the SEC title this season. The team is also 9/1 to win the SEC West Division, giving the Rebs the fourth-best odds among the seven teams. Alabama is currently favored to win the West at 2/3.
Ole Miss will have to replace three full-time starters along the offensive line, as well as receiver Donte Moncrief, who will be playing for the Indianapolis Colts next season. That said, quarterback Bo Wallace returns, as does 2013 All-Conference tight end Evan Engram and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. Laquon Treadwell also returns to a receiving corps that should be one of the strengths of the team this season.
Another strength will be the secondary, where 2013 All-American Cody Prewitt returns to his free safety spot. He’ll be surrounded by familiar faces in Senquez Golson, Mike Hilton, Trae Elston and nickelback Tony Conner. 2013 All-Conference outside linebacker Denzel Nkemidche also returns to an Ole Miss defense that is going to be solid in the back seven.
As previously mentioned, the concerns are along the offensive line. Gone are guard Jared Duke, center Evan Swindall and offensive tackle Pierce Burton. The other issue is at pass rush, which is something the team had issues with a year ago, too. Hugh Freeze has done a good job recruiting at Ole Miss, which could be a potential sleeper contender in the SEC this year. But his coaching staff will be tested early to get the offensive line to gel and to generate some kind of pass rush so that the excellent secondary doesn’t get overworked because of a non-existent pass rush.
