BYU Cougars Game Notes
BYU junior WR Gunner Romney said on Monday that he’s good to go this week after taking a couple hard hits during Saturday’s 27-20 win over UTSA. There were a couple occasions Saturday night in which Romney (6’3/185) had to depart in order to be checked out by team trainers, but he was ultimately fine. The junior wideout, whose role within the BYU offense became of even greater importance once TE Matt Bushman suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture, finished the 27-20 victory with four receptions for 80 yards. For the season Romney has caught 20 passes for 453 yards and two touchdowns, and he’ll undoubtedly be one of the first names on Houston’s scouting report as they prepare for BYU’s visit Friday night.
Houston Cougars Game Notes
Houston redshirt senior Mulbah Car (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle Thursday night in Houston’s 49-31 victory over Tulane, but is expected to be fine. Car (6’0/215) didn’t receive many touches, but managed to make the most of them logging seven carries for 30 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 21 yards in Thursday night’s 49-31 win over Tulane. Houston split rushing duties between Kyle Porter, Car and Kelan Walker with Porter leading the way with 11 carries. The Cougars dodged a bullet with this potential injury as Car will be sorely needed when they host 15th ranked BYU next Friday night.
