Auburn Tigers Game Notes
Auburn sophomore QB Bo Nix completed 17-of-28 passes for 187 yards with a touchdown and ran for 30 yards with a score in a 30-28 win on Saturday over Arkansas. This looked like it was going to be a blowout. Nix scooted in from 15-yards out in the second quarter, and it gave the Tigers a 17-0 lead in the middle of the second. After that, Arkansas was the better team — by a considerable margin — but a field goal by Anders Carlson with just seven seconds left gave the Tigers a 30-28 lead and avoided a borderline embarrassing loss. The 6-foot-2, 213-pound quarterback has been shaky in these first three games, and against a better club — again, all due respect to the Razorbacks — this would have been a loss. Nix and the Tigers will take on South Carolina on Saturday.
South Carolina Gamecocks Game Notes
South Carolina redshirt senior QB Collin Hill completed 16-of-24 passes for 196 yards and two rushing touchdowns in a 41-7 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Hill (6’5/214) navigated the wet and rainy conditions adequately enough to lead SC to a comfortable first win of the season. Though he was efficient in his passing efforts by completing 68% of his short-to-mid-range passes and leaning on a strong run game to grind down the Vanderbilt front seven. Hill’s best moment came on a broken play where he stepped up in the pocket in the face of a five-man rush and scampered for a 10-yard touchdown. The Gamecocks will try to pick up their second win when they host Auburn next Saturday.
