Auburn Tigers Game Notes
Auburn sophomore QB Bo Nix completed 15-of-23 passes for 144 yards in a 31-20 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound quarterback also ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns, providing more value on the ground than he did through the air. In all, Nix failed to bounce back from his Iron Bowl struggles last week — when he went 23-of-38 for 227 yards and two interceptions in a 42-13 loss to Alabama. Nix has tantalizing dual-threat ability, but he leaves too many yards on the field with errant accuracy, something to work on this offseason. The 5-4 Tigers close out their regular season against Mississippi State next Saturday.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Game Notes
Mississippi State freshman QB Will Rogers completed 45-of-61 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-24 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday. Rogers (6’2/205) might only be a freshman, but he’s already got a better handle on HC Mike Leach’s air raid offense than the much more experienced K.J. Costello. He completed 74 percent of his passes while averaging a solid 7.2 yards per attempt and kept his team in the game until the very end. He was also opportunistic on the ground as well, rushing four times for 26 yards. The freshman threw touchdowns of six and eleven yards to wideout Malik Heath in addition to a seven-yard strike to Austin Williams. The Bulldogs wrap up their regular season schedule on December 12 against Auburn.
