ASU slips up at home
Following a big win at Michigan State two weeks ago, Arizona State slipped up last weekend at home in a 34-31 loss to Colorado in its Pac-12 opener. Arizona State is now 3-1 on the year, 0-1 in the Pac-12, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Sun Devils are relying a lot on defense this year, giving up just 13.8 points and 346 yards per game this season. Offensively, ASU is putting up 22.5 points and 379.8 yards per contest. Quarterback Jayden Daniels has thrown for 1,073 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while Eno Benjamin is the team’s leading rusher with 292 yards and three scores. Brandon Aiyuk has been Daniels’ leading target with 22 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns.
Cal gets big road win
The hype train for Cal got a little bigger last weekend, as the Golden Bears went on the road and picked up a 28-20 win over Ole Miss. California is 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in the Pac-12, 2-2 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Golden Bears have been great defensively this year, giving up just 17.3 points and 366.5 yards per contest. The Cal offense is putting up 24.5 points and 371.3 yards per game. The defense is being led by Evan Weaver, who already has 62 tackles. Christopher Brown Jr. is leading the offense with 335 rushing yards and two scores while Chase Garbers has 835 passing yards with seven touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Arizona State
ASU is 5-2 with the under in its last seven road games, but 8-2 with the over in its last 10 Friday games.
California
The Golden Bears have hit the under in eight of their last nine conference games and in five of their last six at home.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in four of their last five meetings, but the makeup of both teams is a lot different since they last played in 2016. Herm Edwards has ASU trying to grind out wins and the same is the case for Cal. The Bears have looked solid on defense and I expect them to give a freshman quarterback in Daniels a lot of problems. The Cal offense isn’t going to overwhelm anyone, especially a respectable defense like ASU. I think this could be a real uneventful offensive game on Friday.
College Football Week 5 Prediction: Arizona State/California Under 40.5
