MSU finds its offense
After struggling on offense in its season opener against Tulsa, Michigan State found its offense last week against Western Michigan in a 51-17 victory. The Spartans are 1-1 against the spread thus far while splitting the over/under total.
Through two games, MSU is now averaging 39.5 points and 442.5 yards per game while giving up just 12 points and 216 yards per game on defense. The Spartans are still giving up negative rushing yards to opponents thus far. In the win over Western Michigan, Elijah Collins broke out in the backfield. He now has 209 rushing yards on 25 carries to lead the team while Brian Lewerke has thrown for 506 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Darrell Stewart Jr. is the team’s leading receiver with 16 catches for 241 yards and a score. Kenny Willekes is leading the defense with 12 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
ASU struggling with weak opponents
Arizona State is off to a 2-0 start thanks to wins over Kent State and Sacramento State. The Sun Devils have failed to cover big spreads in both games while going under in both games.
ASU is putting up 24.5 points and 425 yards per game on offense while giving up just seven points and 252.5 yards per contest. Jayden Daniels is leading the team with 588 passing yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a score. Eno Benjamin is the leading rusher with 171 yards on 46 carries while Brandon Aiyuk has eight catches for 238 yards with a touchdown.
College Football Betting Trends
The Spartans are just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 against Pac-12 opponents and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a win.
Arizona State is 6-2 against the spread in its last eight games in September and 7-2 ATS in their last nine against Big Ten opponents.
This game at ASU last year is what really set the tone for the rough MSU season on offense. I expect the Spartans to come out today and really play motivated and play well. They found an offensive spark last week and now get to build on that against a team that is coming from the West Coast and hasn’t played on the road this year. ASU has struggled with weak teams thus far and is likely to struggle against this MSU defense today.
College Football Week 3 Prediction: Michigan State -14.5
