Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes
Alabama freshman QB Bryce Young has been named National Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Foundation. Young (6’0/194) being given a national honor in the aftermath of his first start comes as no surprise, as the freshman was lights out in the Crimson Tide’s 44-13 thrashing of Miami. Young completed 27-of-38 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns, with the yardage and TD totals setting new records for the most in an Alabama quarterback’s debut. “I was really impressed with the way he played in the game, the poise that he played with, the command that he had,” HC Nick Saban said of Young after the win. “He kind of took what the defense gave and really directed the offense in a really positive way. And when we had opportunities to make plays on third down and a couple other explosive plays, he certainly did a great job in getting the ball to the right guy in the right time in the right place. So I was really pleased.”
Florida Gators Game Notes
Florida HC Dan Mullen says QBs Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson “know the plan” heading into Saturday’s game against No. 1 Alabama. “They know what we have scheduled going into the game,” Mullen said. Mullen has thus far publicly stuck with Jones (2/4 TD/INT ratio) as QB1 despite the quarterback’s early-season struggles and the exploits of his nominal backup Anthony Richardson. Richardson has rushed for 275 yards and two TD through two games. He’s currently nursing a hamstring injury but is expected to be fine for Saturday’s game.
