The 2016 National Football Playoff National Championship will take place in January of 2016 and will be presented by AT&T. This will be the second national title game to take place under the new playoff format, which takes the top four teams from the college football season (voted on by a committee) and pits them against each other in a two-round (semi-finals and finals) tournament.
In 2014, Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State competed in the first-ever college football playoff. No. 1 Alabama fell to No. 4 Ohio State 42-35 in the Sugar Bowl while No. 2 Oregon routed No. 3 Florida State 59-20 in the Rose Bowl. After advancing from the semi-finals round to the finals, the Buckeyes soundly beat the Ducks 42-20 in the national title game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
