In Urban Meyer’s second full season in Columbus the Buckeyes finished the regular season with a 12-0 record and was a perfect 8-0 in conference play before running into Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game. The Spartans beat the Buckeyes 34-24 before Clemson beat OSU 40-35 in a thrilling, back-and-forth Orange Bowl.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Buckeyes have 20/21 odds to make the 4-team playoffs in college football this season and 20/27 odds to miss the postseason altogether. This means that for every $21.00 that you wager on OSU to make the playoffs, you’ll win $20.00. And for every $27.00 that you wager on the Buckeyes to miss the playoffs, you’ll win $20.00.
The Buckeyes are also 10/1 to win the 2014-2015 College Football FBS Championship, which gives them the sixth-best odds among the teams listed. Florida State remains favored at 5/1 while Alabama is 6/1 and Oregon is 8/1. Auburn, meanwhile, is 9/1 to win next year’s title after finishing as the runner up last season.
Finally, Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller is 6/1 to win the 2014 Heisman Trophy, giving him comparable odds to Florida State signal-caller Jameis Winston (3/1) and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota (11/2).
