South Carolina 2014 Playoff Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Will South Carolina make the playoffs this season in college football? Let’s check out their odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, South Carolina has 4/1 odds to make the four-team playoff field in college football this year and 1/6 to miss the postseason altogether. The Gamecocks are also 28/1 long shots to win the FBS Championship, as Florida State remains the favorite at 11/2.
The Gamecocks return all but two starters on offense, although one player that’s not coming back is quarterback Connor Shaw. Dylan Thompson is expected to start under center this year and will be protected by an offensive line that returns four of its five starters. 2013 All-Conference tailback Mike Davis also returns, while receivers Shaq Roland, Damiere Byrd and Nick Jones are back as well.
On defense, all three starting linebackers from a year ago are back, including 2013 All-Conference outside ‘backer Sharrod Golightly. Kaiwan Lewis and Marcquis Roberts return, as well as safeties Kadetrix Marcus and Brison Williams. The biggest concern is up front where only J.T. Surratt returns to a line that is now with Jadeveon Clowney who was taken with the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
One thing in South Carolina’s favor is the fact that its schedule doesn’t look too daunting. The Gamecocks will travel to Auburn, Florida and Clemson, but the home schedule isn’t bad and neither is the non-conference matchups. They’ll open with Texas A&M, which is expected to take a massive step back without Johnny Manziel under center.
