According to oddsmakers from Bodog, Houston has 4/7 odds to win the division while other short odds to win are SMU (9/4) and Tulsa (15/4).
Houston has won the division title two times in six years. The Cougars last won the division in 2009. Houston was 5-7 last season and 4-4 in the conference. Kevin Sumlin is in his fourth season with Houston and he returns 14 starters, including quarterback Case Keenum, who spent most of last season injured.
Southern Methodist has one division title to its credit, winning last year. SMU went 7-7 last season and 6-3 in conference play. The Mustangs are in their fourth season with coach June Jones and return 18 starters, including running back Zach Line, who rushed for 1,494 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Tulsa has won the division three times in six years. The Golden Hurricanes were 10-3 last season and 6-2 in Conference USA. Tulsa has a new coach, Bill Blankenship, who has 19 starters back this season. Tulsa brings back G.J. Kinne, who threw for 3,650 yards and 31 touchdowns last season.
