DETROIT, MI (TheSpread) – The first conference championship to be decided in Week 14 of college football is the MAC as No. 23 Northern Illinois takes on Miami (Ohio) at 7PM ET.

Northern Illinois comes into the game at 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the MAC while Miami is 8-4 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. This game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit.

Trends show that Northern Illinois is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games against Miami while the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five games between these two teams.

Opening odds had Northern Illinois favored by 15 points and the spread was quickly working its way up all week before closing at 17.5 points. The over/under total opened at 52.5 an was as high as 55 points before settling in at 53.5.

Northern Illinois has won nine straight games entering the championship. They had a clean sweep of conference play, winning all but one of their eight MAC games by at least 14 points. The Huskies are averaging 39.3 points per game thanks to the seventh-best rushing attack in the country. NIU averages 279.2 yards per game on the ground, led by conference MVP, Chad Spann, who has rushed for 1,239 yards and 20 touchdowns on the season. The NIU defense is holing opponents to just 18.5 points per game on the year.

Miami has won its last four games to sneak into the conference title game as winners of the East Division. The RedHawks have had five conference victories come by 7 points or less this season. Miami is averaging just 20.1 points per game offensive, which ranks 104th of 119 teams in the FBS, while the defense is giving up 23.6 points per game. Zac Dysert is leading the team with 2,406 passing yards and 13 touchdowns but he will not play on Friday because of an injury. Redshirt freshman Austin Boucher will get the start instead. Boucher is 48-of-74 passing for 498 yards and three touchdowns with one interception this season.

NIU offensive lineman Matt Krempel will not play on Friday due to an undisclosed Injury while Miami receiver Luke Swift is questionable with an ankle injury and linebacker Ryan Kennedy is questionable with a knee injury.

A little over 16,800 Public Bets have been placed on the MAC Championship and Northern Illinois is getting 79% of the wagers at -17.5 against Miami (Ohio).
