Hokies ease past Hurricanes
Virginia Tech won for a second straight time over Miami Wednesday afternoon to advance in the ACC Tournament as it won by a count of 71-56. The Hokies (24-7) led 38-21 at halftime en route to the victory. Virginia Tech shot 27-of-54 from the field, 11-of-27 from 3-point range plus 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Kerry Blackshear Jr. led the Hokies with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also notched 10 rebounds and four assists. Ty Outlaw accounted for 14 points and eight boards. Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 12 points, six assists and three caroms. Isaiah Wilkins added 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
Seminoles wins fourth straight
Florida State secured a 65-57 victory Saturday at Wake Forest to finish the regular season 25-6 overall and 13-5 in the ACC. The Seminoles outscored the Demon Deacons 41-26 in the second half after trailing by seven at halftime. Florida State shot 24-of-56 from the floor, 6-of-21 from 3-point range plus 11-of-21 at the free throw line. Trent Forrest was the lone Seminoles player in double figures for scoring as he registered 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting including 1-of-1 from 3-point distance plus 4-of-6 at the free throw line. He also accumulated five assists and four rebounds.

Prediction:
Despite the 73-64 OT loss at Florida State earlier this month, I think the Hokies are the more complete team here. A lot of that has to do with the Seminoles perhaps being a bit too deep and not playing their best players a premium number of minutes. In a tournament setting like this where two more games after this will need to be won, I wouldn’t expect a minutes increase for the FSU core players today and that will likely be to its detriment. The Hokies have looked good in blasting Miami in back-to-back games after the Florida State loss and I think they continue rolling today.
