HOUSTON (AP) – Shaka Smart calls them the Energy Brothers.
Ed Nixon is VCU’s defensive stopper, and Brandon Rozzell is the offensive lightning.
Add in a big dose of versatile forward Bradford Burgess, and you have the Rams’ X-factors heading into their national semifinal against Butler (27-9) at Reliant Stadium on Saturday.
Smart says Nixon and Rozzell give the Rams (28-11) infusions of energy in different ways.
Nixon was the guy charged with slowing down Purdue’s E’Twaun Moore in the third round of the NCAA tournament, and he held him to 10 points on 5-for-15 shooting.
Rozzell brings points, often in rapid-fire fashion. He scored 26 when the Rams beat Georgetown and hit three 3-pointers in a span of 3 minutes when VCU bolted to a huge early lead against Kansas.
