LAS VEGAS (AP) – A suspended UNLV basketball player has quit the team ahead of a preliminary hearing on criminal charges that he stole expensive Nike sneakers, $500 cash and almost $900 worth of video games from a friend’s apartment.
Nineteen-year-old Savon Goodman issued a statement through the team saying he felt a lot of pressure the last few months, and that it was best to leave the program.
His lawyer, William Terry, didn’t immediately respond to a message.
Runnin’ Rebels coach Dave Rice announced in August that the 6-foot-6 sophomore forward from Philadelphia would sit out the 2013-14 season.
A judge is due to decide Nov. 12 if Goodman should stand trial on misdemeanor conspiracy and felony burglary and grand larceny charges in a May 18 incident at an off-campus apartment.
