CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina says forward Tyler Zeller will likely miss the rest of the season with a broken wrist.
School officials say the freshman, who started in place of injured star Tyler Hansbrough, had surgery Wednesday to repair his left wrist. The university’s doctors say normal recovery time for the injury is 12-16 weeks.
Coach Roy Williams is calling Zeller’s injury “another big blow for our team.”
The top-ranked Tar Heels have won two games without Hansbrough, the reigning national player of the year who has missed roughly three weeks of practice with a stress reaction in his right shin.
Zeller was injured late in Tuesday night’s 77-58 win over Kentucky when he was fouled while going in for a breakaway dunk and landed on the wrist.
