CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – D.J. Cunningham and Andrew Rowsey each scored six of UNC Asheville’s 13 points in overtime as they put away Charleston 67-58 Friday night.
The Bulldogs (1-2) surged out to a 21-8 lead midway through the first half and coasted to a 10-point advantage at the half.
Charleston (1-2) opened up the second half on a 19-8 run to take the lead at the 11:46 mark on a tip shot by Anthony Thomas.
UNC Asheville made a late surge as Jaron Lane hit two free throws and netted a 3-pointer for a five-point lead.
Anthony Thomas made a jumper and Willis Hall hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left to force overtime.
Cunningham scored two jumpers to open the overtime period and Rowsey contributed a jumper and four free throws to extend the lead to six with 22 seconds to play.
Rowsey finished with a game-high 23 points.
