KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tyler Smith scored 22 points and Jordan Howell 17, leading five Tennessee players in double figures as the No. 11 Volunteers beat Louisiana-Lafayette 98-70 for their 22nd straight home victory.
JaJuan Smith added 15 points, Ramar Smith 14 and Duke Crews had 10 points and nine rebounds for Tennessee (7-1), which earned its second straight win after losing to No. 8 Texas on Nov. 24. Chris Gradnigo had 15 points and David Dees 14 for the unranked Ragin’ Cajuns (1-4), who dropped their fourth straight.
Tennessee moved out to a double-digit lead after 6 minutes of play and maintained it the rest of the way, with the final margin of victory representing their largest lead. The Ragin’ Cajuns, who held three of their first four opponents to less than 50 percent shooting, allowed the Vols to hit 53 percent of their shots from the floor.
The first half was the problem for Louisiana-Lafayette, which made just seven of its 23 shot attempts and committed 14 turnovers that led to 17 Tennessee points. The Volunteers moved the basketball more efficiently, compiling 16 assists on 20 first-half baskets while committing just six turnovers.
