OLEAN, N.Y. (AP) – St. Bonaventure junior forward Marquise Simmons will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon in the season opener.
The school provided the update Monday on Simmons, who was hurt in a 79-58 win over Cornell on Friday. Simmons played just 2 minutes before getting hurt as he was fouled while driving to the basket.
Though clearly in pain, he made both free throws before leaving the game.
Simmons was being counted on as a key reserve for a team that opened the season projected to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10. He averaged 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22 games last season.
Because the injury occurred so early in the season, there is a chance for Simmons to earn a medical redshirt to preserve his year of eligibility.
