AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) -The Air Force Academy will hire its new basketball coach Tuesday and reports are assistant Jeff Reynolds is being promoted to replace Jeff Bzdelik, who left to coach Colorado last week.
Athletic director Hans Meuh didn’t return phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment Monday night, but a news conference was scheduled for Tuesday at Falcon Stadium to introduce the new coach.
The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News both cited unidentified sources in reporting on their Web sites that Reynolds would be promoted. Sports information director Troy Garnhart said he couldn’t confirm the reports.
Reynolds joined Bzdelik’s staff two years ago after serving as an assistant at Tulane from 2000-04. He was the head coach at Wingate from 1997-2000.
Bzdelik went 50-16 at Air Force but the Falcons couldn’t compete financially with the Buffaloes, who lured him away for more than $750,000 a year.
