PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -Nik Raivio scored 27 points and Portland extended its best start in West Coast Conference history with an 84-66 victory over No. 22 St. Mary’s on Saturday.
Portland (15-7, 6-1) moved into a second-place tie in the conference with St. Mary’s (18-3, 5-2), with both teams chasing No. 20 Gonzaga. The Pilots, winners of six straight, host the Bulldogs on Thursday night.
St. Mary’s was playing without leading scorer Patrick Mills, who broke two bones in his hand during a loss Thursday night at Gonzaga. Without their best player, the Gaels couldn’t answer the hot shooting of Portland, which connected at a 69 percent clip (18-of-26) from the field.
