LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) -Connecticut prosecutors have dropped assault and breach of peace charges against Maryland basketball player Jordan Williams and four other teenagers.
An arrest warrant released Monday says Williams, a 6-foot-10 freshman forward, was accused of throwing an underage girl to the ground to stop her from fighting with his girlfriend in his hometown of Torrington on Aug. 8.
Prosecutor Devin Stilson said Monday that he dropped the charges because that is what everyone involved in the case wanted.
Williams’ lawyer, William Stevens, says the decision makes sense because no one was seriously hurt, and none of the teens have criminal records.
Maryland officials had said they were waiting for the criminal case to conclude before making any decisions about Williams.
