The Battle at Atlantis had a successful opening run this past weekend with four teams playing in a ballroom that once held the Miss Universe Pageant.
The next step is for this doubleheader to become an eight-team tournament.
That will require the Bahamas gaining exempt status from the NCAA. Only two other countries, Mexico and Canada, have been green-lighted to host tournaments, but the Bahamas would seem to have a good shot at joining them.
The proposal already has the support of two NCAA committees and the teams that played there over the weekend have given glowing endorsements.
The NCAA’s Legislative Council will look at the proposal next month and, if passed, will send it to its member schools for a vote.
