WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) -Jeremy Goode scored 21 points to lead Mount St. Mary’s of Maryland to a 72-62 win over Monmouth on Saturday night.
Kelly Beidler added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Mount (16-10, 11-4 Northeast Conference), while Jean Cajou also finished with 13 points.
Travis Taylor had a game-high 23 points for the Hawks (6-21, 4-10), while Will Campbell added 15 points and Mike Myers Keitt had 11.
The teams traded the lead for most of the first half, but the Mount took command with a 20-4 run spanning the last 8:19 of the half through the opening 2:32 after the break.
The Hawks tried to rally late, but the Mount used an 11-6 run to pull away in the closing minutes. They then sealed the win by making 4-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes and getting two dunks from Beidler.
The Mount also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Monmouth 40-25.
