WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) -Eric Maynor scored 24 points and fellow North Carolina native Jamal Shuler added 16 to lead Virginia Commonwealth past North Carolina-Wilmington 72-57 on Saturday night.
Wil Famini added 10 points for the Rams (9-4, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association), who shot 45 percent, shook off a slow start and took the lead for good midway through the first half when Ed Nixon’s three-point play made it 15-14.
T.J. Carter scored 15 points, Vladimir Kuljanin had 12 and Chad Tomko added 10 for UNC Wilmington (8-7, 1-2), which shot 40 percent but couldn’t overcome 18 turnovers.
Virginia Commonwealth led by 17 and held a 35-31 rebounding advantage in winning for the sixth time in seven games.
The Seahawks have lost three straight and four of five.
